The iOS 11 Update Conundrum

With the release of the long awaited iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X also comes the release of the iOS 11 update for your current devices. Updating brings a slightly sleeker layout and some new features. Unfortunately, it is also bringing on problems for many iPhone users.

What are the pros and cons of updating to iOS 11? Should you update or should you wait it out? That's what we will be discussing today.

With every iOS update in the past, Apple has had to release new versions within days or weeks to work out any bugs or glitches; iOS 11 is no exception. iOS 11.0.1 and 11.0.2 have been released to work on some but not all of these issues. The most common problems we have seen since the release of iOS 11 are quickly draining and overheating batteries. We have also encountered a dead spot in the top right corner on certain applications. The battery issue is a big enough problem on its own that we would suggest waiting until another update is released to fix these bugs and glitches. Some of the glitches already fixed by 11.0.1 and 11.0.2 were issues users had with the photos in their libraries and a crackling audio issue with the earpiece. Apple also fixed another issue with encrypted e-mails in the latest update. Unfortunately, the issues we have come across most have not been fixed with the 11.0.2 update which was released yesterday. There is also a new safety feature called Do Not Disturb for Driving that not all customers are enjoying. This feature will turn off your notifications anytime you are driving. Turning off the feature is simple enough. You just go into your settings and from there you will choose Do Not Disturb. It will give you the option to have the feature turned on automatically, when connected to your car's bluetooth or manually. Manually would be the option to go with if you want to turn it off completely.

What can you look forward to with the iOS 11 update?

Despite the flaws of the update, there are also many perks if you do decide to take the plunge with iOS 11. Some of the most notable new features include now being able to record your screen and the ability to drag and drop photos into new albums. Other notable features are a new document scanner option in the notes app which recognizes when a photo of a document has been taken and will automatically crop the image and remove glares or tilting. You will also have the ability to take Live Photos during FaceTime and more. It seems the pros far outweigh the cons in terms of quantity.

More new features that can be found in iOS 11 include, but are not limited to:
